Christmas is Coming

I still have a back log of pictures to share with you but in the mean time here is some food or sweets for thought.

I don't know about you but for me time always seems to accelerate at this time of the year. So much to do,parties, people to catch up with. For us in the southern hemisphere it is also the start of summer, end of the school year so a time of beginnings and endings.
It also happens to be one of my favourite times of the year. So to start off the celebrations here is a sample of some of the Christmas goodies I will be making. Fruit mince pies, Christmas fruit cakes, shortbread and chocolate ginger cupcakes of course. Please check in regularly over the next week for more pictures and if you see anything you like please give me a call.
Thanks for dropping by.x

Royal Show Cake

A little sneaky peek at my entry for the Perth Royal Show. Very happy with my flowers but when I saw the competition I was blown away by all of the very talented cake decorators exhibiting. Go along to the show and have a look for yourself there are some phenomenally beautiful cakes that are breath taking in both skill and design. Good luck everyone. If you're at the show on the last Saturday I will be doing a demo at lunch time, so come and say hello.

Sugar Rose

My cake decorating teacher is the fabulous Gail Dorter. Gail is so talented and is a wealth of information and inspiration as well as a sensational artisan in the craft of cake decorating. She also is super funny and keeps us in stitches for our classes. Gail showed us how to make a large formal rose and although this isn't finished, ie. no foliage I thought I'd show you a quick pic. I dusted the petals to resemble the Peace rose.

Baby Shower Cupcakes

Some pretty pastel baby themed cupcakes ordered by Claire for her friends baby shower. Best wishes to the parents to be. May you be blessed with a beautiful healthy baby, who also loves to sleep preferably more than three consecutive hours. Good luck and best wishes.

Horse Themed Cupcakes

I made these vanilla cupcakes for Angela to celebrate her friend winning Equestrian Federation of Australia,Horse of the Year. Yes that's what those letters stand for. They look pretty cute and I think the horse theme was a hit. I would love to say it has inspired me to jump on the back of a horse and trot off into the sunset but sadly I'm terrified of horses so making these cupcakes is about as close to horses as I like to get. Enjoy and congratulations.

High End Fashion Inspired Cupcakes

You have to admit these look super cute. I made these cupcakes for Anne Maree to celebrate her birthday with a bit of a sex in the city theme. Manolo Blahnik's, Chanel, D&G and Prada provided a bit of inspiration. The shoes took a bit of time to make {actually foreverrr} but hey when it comes to fashion some sacrifices have to made. Hope you enjoy the pictures and I hope Anne Maree you have a wonderful birthday. Best wishes and enjoy that Penthouse. xx

Tulip Cake

Spring has arrived and for my cake decorating class we made Tulips and Lavender {which looks great but was very fiddly}
We had to place them in a flower pick on a cake so they were arranged in an upright position. I haven't really finished arranging the flowers yet but thought I would show you my progress, what do you think?

This little piggy...

I made these little figurines for Jing Jing to put on a birthday cake for some of her friends. They are to represent Year of the Pig and Year of the Rooster. Yes that's what it is, a rooster sitting on top of an egg. ha ha.
The little pig was meant to have longer arms so he could be holding the plate with the cupcake but unfortunately they were a little bit stumpy. They look kind of cute anyway.
They are sitting on a plaque made entirely of fondant icing about 10 cm in diameter so they will look great on top of the cake. Alas I forgot to take a pic of the cake but it was a simple lemon layer cake covered in butter cream.{ similar to the cake I made for Karen in a previous post }

If you'd like me to make you a cake topper give me a call.

Chocolate Wedding Cake

What a busy weekend of cakes. Just wanted to share some pictures of a three tiered chocolate wedding cake I made for a good friend Ute. This cake was a real chocolate delight. I lost count of how much chocolate went into the making of this after about 6-7 kg, 25 eggs, kilos of butter not to mention sticking on hundreds and hundreds of chocolate cigarellos around the base of each cake.
Did I mention the sourcing of fruit which is all out of season for us here in Perth. When my supplier was unable to come through with my order of blueberries my husband { wonderful dear kind husband} went to six different outlets in search of blueberries for me, my visit to three other shops confirmed my worst fears, no blueberries. Mild hysteria and panic setting in at this point. No raspberries, no blueberries. Still as they say the show must go on and the cake was completed and I think the end result was pretty striking. Congratulations Ute and Adam, wishing you much happiness.
P.S. Thanks to my lovely little family for putting up with the kitchen being hijacked this weekend, without your support I couldn't do what I love to do.

I made these musically inspired cupcakes for the good folk at the Commonwealth Bank who are having a little "Grammy" music inspired get together. I hear there is a red carpet to parade down and I'm sure there will be some great costumes. Enjoy your evening and I hope the cupcakes make it a little sweeter.

The decorations on the cakes are all edible. Musical notes, sheet music and some tiny Grammy look alike trophies. Cupcakes are Vanilla and Raspberry and Dark Chocolate with vanilla butter cream.

Pretty Little Cake

I made this cake to take to work yesterday for afternoon tea to help celebrate Karen's birthday. Everyone made some goodies we hope you had a fantastic birthday Karen.

This little cake is a 6 " { that's 15 cm } diameter and stands about 25 cm tall. Perfect for afternoon tea. It is lemon and coconut filled with lemon curd and vanilla butter cream. Then covered with more vanilla butter cream, so you only need to have petite slices. A little fondant cherry on top works nicely.

This pretty little cake looks great on a sweets table with an assortment of other goodies to indulge.
Matching cupcakes and decorated cookies along side would certainly please all of your guests. Contact me if you would like to try one for yourself.
