I Love Cake

Last cake of the year. A love heart shaped beauty for a couple getting engaged.

Matching cupcakes to accompany. This was a lot of fun to make. I baked a tall 7" round cake made a heart template and cut out the cake and here you have it a love heart chocolate cake with a banner across. All edible. Sadly I haven't got a picture of the cupcake tower they were made for, but they looked pretty and pastel.

Fa La La La La La ...

Let me introduce you to the Iacomella Family Christmas Cake. You are so organised I hear you say.

Well, yes seems that I am this year, says me smugly, sitting here tapping away sipping my strawberry tea. Ha Ha .Right at this moment you should be laughing. Laughing long and hard  because sadly I'm never usually so prepared. The reason why is because this was the cake I made to demonstrate to my students how to cover a fruit cake 101. So when classes were over I just decorated it to my taste. No snowmen, penguins, snowflakes etc this year because sadly we are not having a skiing holiday, but a beach holiday. Since magnolia's are my newest favourite flower,I made a big one front and centre for the cake and couldn't resist some holly berries and pine cones to keep it a bit festive. What do you think?

I thought it would make a pretty nice wedding cake if you were having a Christmas wedding. The cakes are 7" base and 5"top tier.

Well I hope you will all enjoy some rich fruit Christmas Cake this year and just to keep things real I actually baked last years cake on Christmas Eve. { Thank you Nigella. Chocolate Fruit Cake } and it was equally yummy.
Have a good week. Thanks for stopping by. xx

Only 24 Days Until Christmas

Eek I can't believe Christmas is almost upon us. Hope all your preparations are going to plan. I have some festive treats to share with you today to perhaps lull you into the festive season. The cake with the candle topper was a little project I taught a group of students. The flowers were two toned blossoms with cotton stamens, pine cones, holly leaves and berries a candle about 12cm tall and lots of little ribbon loops made of shimmery lamenta. Kind of cute and my students did a fantastic job, I was so proud of them.

Some cute Christmas themed cupcakes. If you would like some please do get in touch soon.

Baby shower themed cupcakes also made an appearance. African inspired cupcakes with the animal print were fun to make and the little wrapped parcels were little individual  spiced chocolate mud cakes. A Christmas gift to my students who undertook a six week course. It was lovely to meet you you all and I really enjoyed my first foray into teaching. Hope you had fun too.

Have a great week will post some more pictures in a few days. Tammy x

It's all about the colour Purple

Did you know purple is the colour of good judgement. It is the colour of people seeking spiritual fulfillment and it is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind.

Purple is the combination of red and blue, the warmest and the coolest colours.
Purple is the colour of mourning for widows in Thailand. It was the favourite colour of Cleopatra and has traditionally been associated with Royaly and the Nobility. Most children love the colour purple. It is the colour most favoured by artists. Thursday's colour is purple.

I didn't know all of these facts when I decided to make some purple sugar flowers for a cake.
So have a wonderful week and colour your world...purple xx

Wedding Cake

Just delivered this pretty three tired wedding cake at Royal Perth Yacht Club. The design was modelled on a picture the bride Talea sent me . The flowers were based on a Gardenia and I know they don't come in a purple hue but therein lies the magic of cake decorating you can have what ever your heart desires, so shades of purple or I should say violet it was.

The venue looked spectacular, with beautiful floral arrangements and crystal stemware on the tables and in the background little yachts bobbing on the Swan River.
The cake consists of three flavours. The bottom tier chocolate, middle tier lemon and coconut with white chocolate ganache and the top tier white chocolate.

Best wishes to Talea and Tom on your wedding day may you be blessed with health and happiness. xx

That Crown Cake

OK, so two traits that I admire greatly in people are graciousness and modesty.  I may be pushing those boundaries here but couldn't resist posting a pic of that Crown Cake with all it's prize winning finery, ie. shiny blue first prize ribbon. Sorry about the photo there is a lot of glare.

Crown Cake

A little sneaky peek at my Royal Show Cake entry. The category was a cake to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee. More to come.

A Really Big Cake

So it's been a while since my last post but I have been so busy making cakes, flowers a spot of teaching and well all the usual bits and pieces you try to squeeze into a day. Thought I would share with you a really big cake I made for my two son's Basketball Club to help celebrate their 25th Anniversary. We had a great family fun day to celebrate the event and cake of course and as someone once said ( I think it was Audrey Hepburn) a celebration without a cake is just a meeting.

So details of the really big cake.90cm long about 40 cm wide and 12cm tall. Chocolate sponge filled with chocolate butter cream and whipped ganache and crushed malteesers. All decorations were hand painted on  sugar paste even Air Jordan. The club catered for 400 guests on the day so I hope you all tasted some cake, if not you'll just have to order another one from me. Just make sure it's a wee bit smaller, that was a challenge transporting. Enjoy.

Hooray For Bright Colours

Stepping out of my comfort zone this week  I made this  wedding cake with a tropical inspired tangerine coloured blossom. It highlights two simple design principles
1. Less is definitely more and
2. Bright splashes of colour can look elegant and sophisticated.

Sometimes one large bloom or statement flower is all you need on a cake to have that wow factor. This would look fabulous in bright pink, lime green, or even a deep purple for example. Think of it like a simple make over for the humble two tiered cake.

Hope you like, thought you might be getting sick of the same backdrop I use with my photography so this was taken on a table in my living room.
Have a great weekend.

60th Birthday Cake

Another extended tier cake, this time ordered by Alyssa for her Dad's 60th birthday. Brian, who works for Western Power hence the electrical theme will celebrate in style. I even included a little figurine[ As taught by Handi }Hope everyone enjoyed the celebrations.

Hollywood Themed Cake

This was a monstrously heavy cake, but I had a lot of fun with it. Casey asked me to make this for her dad's 50th and what a great theme. Everything was edible, hand molded out of fondant. The exploding stars were encased in flower picks the popcorn was real, thought that would add a nice crunch to the texture of the cake. { not because it was too time consuming to made sugar paste popcorn, ha ha }

The cakes were Devils Chocolate with dark chocolate ganache. The bottom tier was an extended10" and the top tier 7". Once the cakes were picked up they had a 3and a half hour drive south, hope they arrived safely in one piece and I hope everyone enjoys a fabulous Hollywood night of nights...

50 th Birthday Cake

Two dear friends and work colleagues are celebrating their birthdays so I was delighted to make them a birthday cake. I decided to go for a hat box look with a little bit of bling { the number 50 }Everything was edible apart from the sparkly numbers. The cake was well travelled it even had a ride in the Hummer Limousine with us. What a great night out my feet are still aching from all that dancing, Happy Happy Birthday Cathy and Alison hope you enjoyed your birthdays and the cake. Tammy xxx

Baby Shower Cake

Pastel gelato colours are definitely amongst my favourite colour hues, so with this in mind I made a little cake for Joanne to celebrate the impending arrival of baby number one. Bunting and owls { mummy and baby } complimented the theme and I think it looks super cute. Matching cupcakes and cookies would look spectacular on a dessert table when hosting a baby shower. Call me if you are in need of something cute and adorable for your next event. This cake is devils chocolate with a strawberry infused dark chocolate ganache.

Best wishes Jo can't wait to meet the. little one when he arrives. xx

Teacher Cupcakes

Some cute cupcakes I made for Mary a lovely teacher retiring after many years in the class room. Enjoy retirement.

Latest Cakes

All my good intentions for blogging more frequently have seemingly flown out of the window. How can one month have possibly gone by since my last post? Continuing with that thought I can't believe we are now past the half way mark for the year. Please accept my apologies for being so neglectful however to make up for my absence I will attempt to dazzle you with some recent cakes I have made.

The guitar cake was donated to Newman College to help raise funds for The Friends of Music Program.

Basketball  cake was a thank you to my son's basketball coach who has moved  interstate for work and the One Direction cake for Sophie to celebrate her 14th birthday. {this cake was a real departure from what I normally produce} and allowed me to experiment with an edible image Hope you enjoy..
